NLC Protests Against Removal of Fuel Subsidy: A Nationwide Call for Government Accountability

The NLC called on the government to find alternative solutions and provide palliatives to alleviate the impact of the subsidy removal. Despite attempts by the government to prevent the protest, the NLC went ahead with their nationwide demonstration. In Abuja, protesters forcefully pulled down the gate at the entrance of the national assembly. The police had urged the protesters to maintain peaceful conduct throughout the demonstration.

The Police Force had emphasized the importance of peaceful protests and acknowledged the grievances raised by the labor unions. They ordered the Commissioners of Police and other leaders to engage in discussions with the NLC/TUC leadership to find common ground. The police assured citizens of their commitment to maintaining law and order while protecting lives and property. Despite the security measures, the protesters managed to break into the national assembly complex by pulling down the locked gate. They chanted solidarity songs during the demonstration.
