Ten suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of police constable Babagana Mala in Maiduguri, the capital city of Borno state in Nigeria. The suspects were apprehended after a good Samaritan provided a video clip of the incident to the police. Among the suspects are eight males and two females. The commissioner of police in Borno state, Mohammed Yusufu, stated that the constable was stabbed with a sharp object on his back during an altercation with the assailants. Proper investigations will be conducted before the suspects are charged and brought to court. Terrorist attacks, including those by Boko Haram, have been recurring in Borno state for many years, causing fear and displacement among the residents.
 

After the brutal murder of police constable Babagana Mala in Maiduguri, the capital city of Borno state, ten suspects have reportedly been arrested. Their identities have been disclosed as Usman Audu (male, 20), Hauwa Usman (female, 20), Aisha Musa (female, 19), Abba Bala (male, 20), Sunday Garba (male, 21), David Paul (male, 35), Mohammed Abubakar (male, 19), Jude Eze (male, 37), Amaechi Abdulsalam Afochibe (male, 37), and Nduibuse Nnaji (male, 34).

According to Mohammed Yusufu, the Commissioner of Police in Borno State, the deceased constable was part of the Police Crack Unit and was deployed to Malari, Konduga Local Government Area. On July 23, 2023, after obtaining permission to visit his home in Maiduguri, the constable was brutally murdered in the Artillery area around 4:27pm. He was stabbed in the back by his assailants, who are currently under investigation.

A good Samaritan in the area provided a video clip of the incident, which aided the police in making the arrests. The police will conduct further investigations before charging the suspects in court.

Borno state has been a hotspot for terrorist attacks, including those by Boko Haram, since 2010. These attacks create fear among the residents, leading to unplanned migrations and an increase in the number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state and beyond.
