The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) is an annual event that celebrates the best of Ghanaian music. The 23rd edition of the awards was held on May 8th, 2021, and saw a number of talented artists take home awards. In this article, we will take a comprehensive look at the winners of the VGMA 23.

 

The night began with a performance from the legendary Ghanaian artist, Sarkodie, who was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award. This award is given to an artist who has made a significant contribution to the Ghanaian music industry.

 

The Artist of the Year award went to Kuami Eugene, who has had a successful year with his hit single “Angela”. Kuami Eugene also won the Best Male Vocal Performance award for his song “Open Gate”.

 

The Best Female Vocal Performance award went to Adina for her song “Take Care of You”. Adina also won the Best R&B/Hip-Hop Song award for her song “Why”.

 

The Best Group of the Year award went to La Même Gang, who have had a successful year with their hit single “Y3 B3 Sei Wiase”.

 

The Best Gospel Song award went to Joe Mettle for his song “Bo Noo Ni”. Joe Mettle also won the Best Gospel Artist of the Year award.

 

The Best Reggae/Dancehall Song award went to Stonebwoy for his song “Putuu”. Stonebwoy also won the Best Reggae/Dancehall Artist of the Year award.

The Best Collaboration of the Year award went to Shatta Wale and Beyoncé for their song “Already”.

 

The Best Music Video of the Year award went to Kuami Eugene for his song “Open Gate”.

 

The Best New Artist of the Year award went to Kofi Mole for his song “Don’t Be Late”.

The Best Afrobeat Song award went to Kelvyn Boy for his song “Mea”.

 

The Best Highlife Song award went to Kofi Kinaata for his song “Things Fall Apart”.

 

The Best International Collaboration of the Year award went to Shatta Wale and Beyoncé for their song “Already”.

 

The Best Digital Act of the Year award went to Kofi Mole for his song “Don’t Be Late”.

The Best Producer of the Year award went to MOG Beatz for his work on Kuami Eugene’s song “Open Gate”.

 

The Best Songwriter of the Year award went to Kofi Kinaata for his song “Things Fall Apart”.

 

The Best Album of the Year award went to Kuami Eugene for his album “Son of Africa”.

 

The Best African Collaboration of the Year award went to Shatta Wale and Beyoncé for their song “Already”.

 

The Best African Act of the Year award went to Stonebwoy for his song “Putuu”.

 

The VGMA 23 was a night of celebration for the best of Ghanaian music. Congratulations to all the winners and nominees!

On the night of May 6, 2023, James Gardiner and Nigeria’s rising pop star Asake hosted the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, where Asake was awarded the most prestigious prize of the evening.
