Funmi Awelewa, also known as Morili Omo Ibadan, has embarked on a new chapter in her career as she makes her directorial debut in the movie titled ‘A Wish’.

Awelewa revealed in a statement to Saturday Beats that the movie tells the story of her life, particularly focusing on her mother who has lost her sight.

She stated, “Directing this movie was an incredible experience for me, though it was quite challenging. It is a story that is very close to my heart, which is why I took the risk of directing it myself. I am grateful that it turned out exactly how I envisioned it. It was a wonderful production in every aspect.”

The actress-turned-filmmaker also mentioned that the movie, produced by her company Faab Entertainment, was filmed at the actual locations of her upbringing.

She further added, “We often neglect our loved ones, especially our parents, in our pursuit of a better life. Many times, they have their own issues, particularly concerning their health, but they rarely get the opportunity to discuss these matters with their children due to lack of time spent together.”

“I aim to rectify this ‘misdeed’ through this movie. No matter how busy we are, we should always create time for our parents. We should check on them, have conversations with them, and assist them in monitoring their health regularly.”
