Rapper Sean Kingston was taken into custody in California on Thursday for fraud charges, following a SWAT team raid on his home in Florida. He was arrested in California on a Florida warrant near Fort Irwin, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
Earlier, authorities also arrested Kingston’s 61-year-old mother, Janice Turner, at his mansion in Southwest Ranches, Florida. Specific charges have not been disclosed by the sheriff’s office due to an ongoing investigation.
Reporters saw authorities collecting items from Kingston’s home and noted the presence of expensive cars. Kingston reassured his followers on Instagram that he and his mother were doing well, with legal representation handling the situation.
“People love negative energy! I am good, and so is my mother!… My lawyers are handling everything as we speak.”
The Hollywood Reporter has contacted Kingston’s representatives for a statement. His attorney, Robert Rosenblatt, expressed confidence in a successful resolution for Kingston and his mother in court.
“We look forward to addressing these in court and are confident of a successful resolution for Shawn and his mother,”
An attorney present during Turner’s arrest mentioned that it was related to a lawsuit filed against Kingston in February, accusing him of fraud in the installation of a large TV in his home by a Florida company.
