The Afrobeat Genre: Bill Gates Identifies Burna Boy and Rema

Bill Gates, the Microsoft co-founder, expressed his views on the new phase of African growth, particularly in the Afrobeat genre. He identified Burna Boy and Rema as the new phase of Afrobeat growth, mentioning that his daughter inspired him to explore their music. Gates admitted to being impressed by these artists, even though he had previously been entertained by Davido and Wizkid. Nigerians agreed with Gates’ assessment, noting that Burna Boy and Rema are indeed significant contributors to the Afrobeat genre.
 

One of the world’s richest men and Microsoft mogul, Bill Gates has settled the ‘Old and New Cat’ debates circulating for quite a long time in the Afrobeat genre curriculum.

During his recent world presentation where he detailed his view on the new phase of African growth where Nigerians are thriving rapidly in the entertainment forum, he sparked reactions among Nigerians after identifying Burna Boy as a mediocre.

While sharing his views with the public during his recent presentation, he highlighted that he has been impressed so far with the new phase of the Afrobeat Genre, which he identified as Burna Boy and Rema.

According to him, his daughter inspired him to explore Burna Boy and Rema just after she learned that she would be visiting Nigeria, “the giant of Africa”.

He added that he was a bit surprised to discover the new phase of Burna Boy and Rema because the last time he visited Nigeria, he was entertained by Davido and Wizkid, who were the hottest Afrobeat gems at that time.

His words:

“When my daughter Phoebe heard I was coming to Nigeria, she said, ‘You’re lucky because you get to see Burna Boy and Rema, so I had to look them up…because I’m so ‘hip’.’

“But I remember the last time I was here, I got to see Davido & Wizkid perform.”

In connection to Davido’s previous ‘New Cats’ plea, Nigerians were quick to admit that the ‘If’ crooner was not lying when he identified Burna Boy and Rema as Afrobeat ‘New Cats’.
