Lionsgate is producing the film and Antoine Fuqua will direct it. Jaafar Jackson, Michael Jackson’s nephew, will portray him in the movie. Universal Pictures holds international rights for the film, except in Japan.
The global release date for the Michael Jackson biopic Michael is set for April 18, 2025.
Graham King, known for the Oscar-winning biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, is producing the film along with John Branca and John McClain, co-executors of the Michael Jackson estate. John Logan, the writer of Gladiator and The Aviator, penned the script.
The film will cover all aspects of Jackson’s life, although it is unclear how it will address the controversies surrounding the late music icon. The biopic is being made in conjunction with his estate, which has defended him against accusations of abuse. These accusations were brought back to public attention by the 2019 HBO documentary Leaving Neverland.
