Calculating the Nigerian most subscribed artist in Youtube some fans are describing it as a beating, because CKay is toping Davido in the number of YouTube subscribers.

CKay, 25, is now the Nigerian artist with the most followers on the video-sharing platform and this is more than just a feat for the singer, it is indeed a cultural shift. The kids are coming!

We are congratulating CKay, because of his great achievements this year’s in the music industry. But now, let’s not get in over our heads and start bullshitting about how he’s the greatest ever, okay?

It would be my understanding that this development means that CKay could be ahead of David with as many as 100,000 subscribers or as little as 1,000. Whichever one it is, doesn’t matter and I honestly don’t wanna find out.

Very tricky. But I wouldn’t say CKay is the most popular Nigerian artist on the platform, no. This is owing to several factors including total views and views-per-video average. Let’s take a quick look.

Burna Boy has a channel with 2.42M subscribers—not close at all—created in 2018 but the channel has 1.1B views in total.

Contrast this to CKay’s total of 680M and you’d see that Burna Boy is still way ahead of the youngster in that light. Also, Burna Boy has 78 videos while CKay has 64. This puts Burna Boy’s average view per video at 15.1M views, while CKay’s is 10.6M views.

This mathematics may not mean anything to most people but what it means really is that CKay may have one video performing wonders on his channel, but for every video that’s performing, several others are not performing as well. Exactly the kind of thing that makes someone a one-hit-wonder. Well, CKay is safe. For now.

WizKid has a channel with 2.34M subscribers created in September 2014 and the channel has amassed a total of 1.2B views (the highest for any artist channel in Nigeria.)

Check Wizkid’s average view per video and it’s about 25M views. Compare that to CKay’s 10M or Burna Boy’s 15M and you’d understand that even with a lesser number of videos, Wizkid is still ahead of his peers by miles on YouTube.
