Nigerian artist Tems has discussed her experience in a Ugandan jail in 2020, describing it as a positive outcome. Tems and fellow musician Omah Lay were arrested by Ugandan authorities for violating COVID-19 rules after performing at a concert in Kampala on December 12, 2020.

Their detention gained widespread attention, leading to their release shortly after with the help of the Nigerian government. In an interview with ES Magazine, Tems shared her thoughts on the incident, expressing appreciation for the experience and stating that it was a humbling journey for her. The singer of “Damage” saw her time in jail as a privilege and highlighted how it contributed to her personal development and humility.
